The families of Hiram, Cornelius, and Eli Fuller have passed down their oral family tradition for over three hundred years,
that their ancestors came to America on the Mayflower.  While their paper trails ended in the 1700-1800's, Y-DNA
chromosome testing has confirmed the family tradition.  Other early Fuller immigrants, like Robert Fuller of Rehoboth/Salem
and Ens. Thomas Fuller of Dedham share a common Fuller ancestor with Edward and Samuel Fuller of the Mayflower.

PROJECT GOALS:

  • Establish a modal haplotype (signature) for Edward and Samuel Fuller*
  • Connect previously "unconnected" Fuller descendants

UNDERSTANDING THE RESULTS:

The DYS value numbers in red are considered to be "fast-moving" markers, which means they are more susceptible to an increased
rate of mutation.  The markers highlighted in yellow are markers that are "one-step" off.  These markers may have mutated in an upward or
downward direction, but are useful in identifying modal Fuller haplotypes.

The Haplogroup (ethnic origin) results are for haplogroup R1b1, the most common western European group.

PROJECT RESULTS:

Y-chromosome DNA testing conclusively shows that the participants above share a common Fuller ancestor. The results indicate that the Hiram, Cornelius and Eli descendants most closely match the Edward Fuller line.  The "12" allele on DYS value #393 on the Samuel Fuller line is a unique marker mutation that multiple Samuel Fuller descendants carry.

Thomas Fuller (also known as Ensign Thomas Fuller of Dedham) is believed to be a first cousin to Edward and Samuel Fuller of the Mayflower. A possible Thomas Fuller descendant, the 12-marker results for MF-7 indicate that he shares a common Fuller ancestor with the Mayflower Fullers. An upgrade to 37-markers is highly recommended to refine the match. The "10" allele on DYS value #391 may be a unique marker mutation that descendants of Thomas Fuller have.  A pattern may emerge as more descendants of Thomas Fuller participate in the project.

MF-8 - Robert Fuller of Rehoboth/Salem is thought to be a brother of Ens. Thomas Fuller. MF-8's DNA match is corroborates a common ancestry with the Mayflower Fuller descendants.

MF-10 - This descendant of Edward Fuller, Mayflower passenger and compact signer, has the ancestral modal haplotype.  In other words, his DNA has not mutated on the first 37-markers since it was transmitted by the common ancestor over 400 years ago.

* Modal Haplotype (DNA signature) - 37-marker matches may reveal the pattern of Samuel and Edward's Y-DNA, also known as a modal signature.
The more Fuller males to DNA test and match, the more the ancestral DNA pattern will be revealed and established.

ELIGIBILITY:

Only males with the Fuller surname are eligible to participate in the Y-chromosome DNA testing.  If the Fuller surname was obtained
by the male through adoption, or the taking of a stepfather's surname, then the DNA test will also not work as far as revealing relation
to others with the Fuller surname. An inheritance chart shows the path that the DNA follows through the generations. It is highly
recommended that you view the video and read through the "FAQ" page to learn more about genetic genealogy and it's success stories.
PLEASE NOTE:
Females do not have a Y-chromosome, which is what's utilized in Fuller surname DNA testing.  However, females can
participate by recruiting male relatives with the Fuller surname to DNA test.

DNA TEST PRICING:

The Fuller DNA Project begins with the 37-marker Y-DNA test which receives the special group discount pricing through
Family  Tree DNA of $189 + $2 shipping.  The 37-marker Y-Chromosome test retails for $259 when not taken through a group project.

Family Tree DNA recently established a "General Fund" option for people to contribute funds towards the cost of DNA testing.
A General Fund contribution can also be made "in memory" of someone.  Click here to contribute to the Fuller General Fund.

If you are a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, but do not share the same surname as your Mayflower
ancestor, you are welcome to make a contribution in memory of your ancestor as your funds can be designated towards the testing
of Mayflower Fuller descendants.  If enough descendants of Edward and Samuel Fuller test, their ancestral haplotypes (DNA
signatures) can be deduced.  Your contributions can help!

Many thanks to the following individuals who've contributed funds to the Fuller General Fund:

DM - Dedicated to DF - $229
GF - In memory of Gordon Wayne Fuller - $406
HM - In memory of Margaret Warden Fuller (1801-1897) - $25
JF - In memory of Norman J. Fuller - $250

Scholarships/grants are available for male FULLER surname residents of Great Britain - please contact for qualifying details.

DNA COLLECTION METHOD:

The DNA is extracted painlessly from buccal cells (saliva/cheek cells)
Click here for an example of how a DNA sample is collected.
